In 2002, visionaries and UBA co-founders David LoCascio and Chris John, and a small group of fellow employee benefits professionals came together to discuss forming an organization that would significantly enhance their respective practices by allowing them to retain the value they deliver to employers as local entrepreneurs, yet receive the benefits of being part of a larger corporation.
This group firmly believed that the collective wisdom, expertise, experience and unique strengths that reside within the country’s most elite employee benefits firms have the potential to not only meet the challenges of the shifting health care environment, but to capitalize on the tremendous opportunity they represent to remain competitive and retain their independence.
The goal was not to define the wide range of benefits each firm would derive from a formal affiliation with other top benefits firms, but to create an organization and structure that would provide Partners long-term, lasting value, and enhance the quality and cost-effective health care insurance and advice they offer to their clients.
“THE CORE OF UBA IS TRUST. I KNEW THAT THERE WOULD BE PEOPLE THAT WOULD HAVE THE SAME BASIC ORIENTATION THAT I DID AND WOULD NOT VIEW OTHER PEOPLE AS COMPETITIVE THREATS BUT WOULD VIEW THEM AS TRUSTED COLLEAGUES AND WERE MORE THAN WILLING TO SHARE. THAT IS THE LYNCHPIN OF UBA.”
David LoCascio, Co-founder, UBA
